The causes of prostatitis always "lie on the surface" of men's daily lives, and very rarely the disease occurs due to serious internal pathologies. Prostatitis is often caused by a banal genitourinary infection caused by excessive sexual intercourse and poor hygiene.
In men, prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland. It is accompanied by many unpleasant subjective feelings and often impairs a person's quality of life. Prevention has always been the most effective way to fight any disease, but to prevent and treat prostate inflammation, you need to know its causes.
Frequency of occurrence
According to statistics, prostatitis is one of the most common urological diseases in men. It occurs in both young and old men. According to some observations, the disease occurs at least once in 30% of men aged 30-40 years, in 40% in men aged 40-50 years, and in 50% of men over 50 years.
In recent years, the following trend has been observed for a number of reasons: prostatitis begins to appear at a younger age. It is often the cause of male infertility.
The course of the disease
The clinical picture of prostatitis in men is different, it depends on the general state of health in general and the immune system in particular, as well as individual characteristics and lifestyle. The disease can develop asymptomatically for a long time at a young age, but eventually it will still manifest itself as difficulty in urination, sexual dysfunction or infertility.
There are two main forms of prostatitis:
- Infectious.
- Congestive (non-infectious).
According to this classification, all the causes of the development of prostatitis can be divided into two groups: those that form the source of infection in the small pelvis and those that block blood and lymph circulation in the prostate gland.
Factors provoking acute inflammation
In men, the acute process is more clinically expressed, the symptoms develop suddenly and cause the most unpleasant subjective feelings. Often accompanied by the appearance of high body temperature (38-39 °).
The most common causes of pathological conditions of this nature may be genitourinary infections in the form of cystitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis, as well as sexually transmitted diseases (especially in young people).
The most important perpetrators of the acute process:
- Escherichia and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
- Klebsiella.
- Protea.
- Enterococci.
- Staphylococcus aureus.
- Trichomonas.
- Gonorrhea.
Pathogenic intestinal bacteria enter the prostate from the urethra and rectum. These pathogens can also be passed from partner to partner during sexual intercourse, and the question of whether prostatitis is sexually transmitted can be answered not by the disease itself, but by its pathogens.
What causes chronic inflammation?
The reasons for the development of chronic prostatitis can also be infectious. However, they are a different type of pathogen, causing a slow disease with an asymptomatic, weak clinical picture. In chronic prostatitis, the temperature is often normal, rarely constant subfebrile, not more than 37. 5 degrees. As a rule, during the exacerbation of the disease, unpleasant symptoms bother men.
The main reason for the acute form of the disease to become a chronic form is improper treatment or its incompleteness.
The typical causes of chronic prostatitis are:
- Mycoplasmas.
- Chlamydia.
- Ureaplasma.
- Cytomegalovirus.
- Candida.
Sometimes bacteria or viruses enter the prostate through the bloodstream from other organs affected by the inflammatory process. And then this disease can occur due to tonsillitis, bronchitis, sinusitis or even caries.
Congestive prostatitis is the most chronic. The reasons for its formation are provoked:
- Sedentary lifestyle.
- Prostate damage.
- Constipation.
- Sedentary work (especially cross work).
- Regular hypothermia or overheating of the pelvic region.
- Features of the anatomical structure of the prostate gland and urethra.
- Frequent urinary retention.
- Bad habits (alcohol, smoking).
- Irregular sex life.
Separately, it should be noted that the development of prostatitis can lead to masturbation. In men, masturbation weakens the tone of the muscles of the prostate gland. As a result, it becomes crushing and atonic, which manifests itself clinically with congestive prostatitis.
Masturbation often causes bleeding in the prostate area and eventually blockage there. Mechanical damage to the foreskin and penis can lead to the development of balanoposthitis. In this case, the bacteria have a direct route to the prostate through the urethra.
Adequate treatment for prostatitis is possible only if the causes are identified.
